Monday · Chicken fajitas

How it works

Three steps, a few questions.

No account to set up first and no recipes to browse. Answer a few questions and you get a priced week.
  1. Step 1: Pick your store

Type your ZIP code and choose a Kroger family store within 10 miles. Prices come from that one store, not a national average. If there's no store near you, the app says so instead of guessing.

  2. Step 2: Get the cheapest week that fits

Say who's eating, which nights you cook and what you can spend. Dinner Cents picks dinners that fit your budget and food rules and prices every ingredient at your store. Or turn on Cheapest week possible and it goes as low as it can.

  3. Step 3: Shop in whole packs

Stores sell packs, not exact amounts, so the list does too. Dinners share ingredients, so a pack you open on Monday can finish on Thursday. Tap Have it for anything already in your cupboard and it comes off the list and the total.

Diets: everything, no pork, vegetarian or pescatarian. You can also leave out peanuts, tree nuts, dairy, gluten, shellfish, egg or soy, and skip foods you don't eat. Dinner Cents leaves those dinners out, but always check the label.

What you get

A week, totalled like a receipt.

Each dinner shows what it costs at your store, and the week adds up against your budget. Packs that carry over show up as cheaper nights later in the week.

The numbers here are made up to show the layout. In the app, every price comes from the store you picked, on the day you plan. Shelf prices and sales change, so the total at the register can differ.

Questions

Things people ask.

Which stores does it work with?
Stores in the Kroger family of grocery chains in the US, as long as Kroger's store search lists one within 10 miles of your ZIP code. That's the Kroger stores themselves plus Kroger's other grocery banners. Other chains aren't supported.
Are the prices real?
In the app, yes. They come from Kroger's product data for the store you picked, checked when you plan. Prices, sales and stock change during the week, so what you pay at the register can be different. The prices on this website are made-up examples.
Does it order groceries or fill a cart for me?
No. Dinner Cents gives you a priced plan and a shopping list. You shop the way you usually do.
What if I already have some of the ingredients?
Tap Have it next to an item on the shopping list. It comes off the list and out of the total. Tap Add back to undo.
Can I trust it with food allergies?
It leaves out dinners that contain the allergens you mark, but it can't see every product's label or how it was made. Always check the label, and don't rely on the app for medical or dietary decisions.
Do I need an account?
No sign-up is needed to plan. After you subscribe you can add an email address, which you can use to sign in with a one-time code. It's optional.
Is there an Android version?
No. Dinner Cents is iPhone only for now.
How do I cancel?
On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Dinner Cents. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. Apple explains it here.
Is Dinner Cents part of Kroger?
No. It's an independent app that uses Kroger's developer data to look up stores and prices. Kroger doesn't endorse or sponsor it.
